Healthy Tips for Hanukkah
- Read all the Holiday eating tips, most pertain to you. But Hanukkah has some special challenges.
- For Hanukkah emphasize vegetables, fruits, and soup.
- Go easy on the latkes or bake them with just a little bit of healthy oil such as peanut or grapeseed or air fry them instead of deep fat frying them.
- Have other healthy foods available to go with the deep fat fried ones if you must have some.
- Mandelbrot, Sufganiuah, kugel, challah and other sweets and processed grain items may seem light but if you’ve already satisfied your appetite, maybe just take a tiny taste as each extra bite can add up the calories if you don’t need them.
- Consider using whole grains instead.
- Watch your portions of brisket especially if you have vascular or cholesterol issues. White meat poultry without the skin or vegetarian proteins are much healthier.
Remember the real reasons for the holiday instead of focusing on food. Figure out ways to have fun other than just with food and alcohol. Focus on family and friends or on spiritual thoughts like helping others, gratitude, peace, and love.
